BIOMETRIC CARDS

Home / Cards / Biometric cards

Biometric cards are the new frontier in access control and attendance tracking within companies, combining a high level of security with ease of use. Biometric ID cards for access control ensure that only authorised personnel can access restricted areas, safeguarding data and infrastructure.

HOW BIOMETRIC FINGERPRINT CARDS WORK

Partitalia’s biometric badges are equipped with an RFID contactless chip, either Mifare Desfire EV3 8K or Mifare Classic, and feature an integrated fingerprint reader.

By placing your finger on the fingerprint sensor, the activation of the RFID chip is triggered. From this moment on, the biometric RFID card functions like a standard Mifare Desfire card or a Mifare Classic card: by keeping the finger on the sensor, simply bringing the badge close to the access control reader enables the opening of the gate, without any modifications to the existing system.

BENEFITS OF BIOMETRIC ID CARDS FOR ACCESS CONTROL

  • Reduction of identity theft: biometric smart cards enable the unique identification of the person, reducing the risk of identity theft and badge swapping, with a significant improvement in security.

  • Compatibility with existing access control systems: cards with fingerprint reader integrate seamlessly with a company’s existing access control systems, requiring no modifications or upgrades to the infrastructure, ensuring uninterrupted operations and avoiding expensive investments.

  • GDPR compliance: biometric cards comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The fingerprint data remains securely stored within the card’s encrypted memory.

BIOMETRIC CARD SOLUTIONS

The adoption of biometric fingerprint cards is recommended for all sectors that require enhanced security for access to facilities and sensitive areas.

  • Courthouses. Biometric access cards restrict access to courtrooms, archives, and offices to authorised staff only, preventing intrusions into areas where highly confidential information is managed.

  • Government sector. Government buildings and critical infrastructure can benefit from biometric access control systems to prevent unauthorised access and protect nationally significant resources.

  • Military sector. Military bases and strategic facilities require strict access control to ensure security. Biometric cards offer high performance, allowing entry exclusively to authorised individuals.

  • Public administration. The use of biometric ID badges for attendance tracking is crucial in public offices, which manage large amounts of personal data, legal documents, and administrative files.

  • Banks. With biometric fingerprint cards, financial institutions can secure access to vaults, offices, and other sensitive areas where financial and confidential data is handled.

  • Airports. Biometric card systems for airport access control enhance security and operational efficiency by enabling the quick verification of travel document information, reducing queues and waiting times for passengers.

  • Data centres. Biometric employee badges enhance the security of data centres — where corporate archives and operating systems are managed — by protecting physical access to servers and IT equipment, reducing the risk of tampering and data theft.

  • Hospitality. The use of biometric cards for access control in hotels ensures protection against unauthorised entry into rooms.

  • Logistics. Warehouses may store high-value goods or sensitive materials. Biometric security badges help prevent theft and unauthorised access.

  • Building industry. Biometric cards for attendance tracking and access control are particularly useful on construction sites, where staff turnover is frequent.

FAQs BIOMETRIC CARD

Here are the most frequent questions about biometric cards, how they work and their advantages.

What are biometric cards?

Biometric cards feature an integrated reader that enables fingerprint detection. They represent a revolution in access control and attendance tracking in companies, offering both enhanced security and ease of use.

Biometric access cards are equipped with a contactless RFID chip and an integrated fingerprint reader. Their operation is simple and immediate: by placing your finger on the sensor, the chip is activated. From that moment, the card functions like a standard badge with a Mifare Classic or Mifare Desfire chip, fully compatible with existing access control systems. To enable access, simply hold the card near the reader while keeping the finger on the fingerprint sensor — no additional actions are required.

Fingerprint smart cards revolutionise access control, by providing a high level of security. Thanks to biometric recognition, they ensure the unique identification of individuals, eliminating risks associated with badge theft or swapping. Biometric cards seamlessly integrate with existing systems, optimising processes without requiring additional investments.

Yes, biometric cards are secure and compliant with the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), ensuring privacy, as the fingerprint remains stored within the card’s encrypted memory.

The use of biometric badges for access control is suitable for all sectors that require high security standards, including courthouses, banking institutions, airports, the military and government sectors, public administration, hotels and hospitality, building industry, and logistics.

Biometric cards represent a significant evolution from traditional access control badges. Using unique physical characteristics of the person, such as a fingerprint, for authentication, they offer a much higher level of security, as the fingerprint is virtually impossible to duplicate.
